Ballots for St. Martin Parish’s Nov. 3 U.S. Senate General Election, open U.S. Representative primary and open primary election have been finalized. Qualifying ended Friday, Aug. 7.
U.S. Senate In the U.S. Senate race, “Jamie” Davis (D), of Ferriday, will face Julia Letlow (R).
Congressional races
In the 3rd Congressional District, U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins (R), of Lafayette, faces challengers “Kate” Cotton (R), of Lake Charles; John Day (D), of Lake Charles; Priscilla Gonzalez (D), of Lafayette; Tia LeBrun (NP), of Sulphur; and Caleb “With a C” Walker (D), of Lafayette.
Incumbent U.S. Rep. Cleo Fields did not seek reelection in the 6th Congressional District, opening the field to Blake Miguez (R), the District 22 state senator who listed a Baton Rouge address; Monique Appeaning (R), of St. George; Chauna Banks (D), of Baton Rouge; Rufus Craig (L), of Baton Rouge; Larry Davis III (R), of Denham Springs; “Rick” Edmunds (R), of Baton Rouge; Patrick “Pat” Forbes (D), of Baton Rouge; Lindsay “Rubia” Garcia (D), of Walker; Michael Mebruer (R), of St. Francisville; and Stephen Wagley (R), of Baton Rouge.
Election
16th Judicial District
Six 16th Judicial District judges will remain in office for another term: Judge Anthony Thibodeaux (R), Division A; Judge Suzanne deMahy (R), Division B; Judge Vincent J. Borne (R), Division C; Judge Jude “Tony” Saleme Jr. (R), Division F; Judge Curtis Sigur (D), Division G; and Judge Roger P. Hamilton (NP), Division H.
Two candidates qualified without opposition: Theodore M. “Trey” Haik III (R), Division D, who will replace Judge Lewis Pitman; and Renee Montegut Louviere (R), Division E, who will replace Judge Keith Comeaux.
District Attorney M. Michael “Mike” Haik (R), of New Iberia, also faced no opposition.
School Board
At least six new members will join the St. Martin Parish School Board after longtime members Steve Fuselier, District 1; Wanda Vital, District 2; Russel Foti, District 5; Richard Potier, District 7; Frederic Stelly Jr., District 8; and Mark Hebert, District 10, opted not to seek reelection.
Incumbents who qualified without opposition are Jimmy Durio (R), District 4; Michael “Mike” Clay (R), District 6; and Marlon D’Augereau (R), District 9.
Burton Bernard Jr. (R) was the only candidate to qualify for the District 1 seat. Former longtime St. Martinville City Council member Mike Fuselier had expressed interest in the race but did not qualify.
Candidates for the District 2 seat are Jess E. “Poppa Dk” Crosier (D), Shirret Davis Leday (NP), and Benjamin Lopez (R).
In District 3, incumbent Edna “Maw Maw” Mitchell Johnson (D) faces Warrenina “Weenie” Batiste (D).
Raymond “Ray” Latiolais (R) was the only candidate to qualify in District 5.
District 7 candidates are Marvin “Rock” Crockett (D) and Albert “Da Da” Menard (D).
Rowdy Huval (D) will represent District 8, while “Joe” Richard (R) will represent District 10.
Justices of the Peace and Constables
Neal Trahan (NP) will represent Ward 1 as justice of the peace. In Ward 2, Benjamin Crosier (NP) and Kelton “Blackjack” Marshall (NP) will face one another. Ward 3 candidates are Lance Laviolette (NP) and Spencer Poirier (R).
“Don” Legrand (NP) will represent Ward 5 as justice of the peace, and Shelia C. Landry will serve in Ward 6.
For constable, Travis J. Trahan (NP) will represent Ward 1. In Ward 2, Jess Crosier (D) will face Leander “Cush” Williams (D). David R. Dugas (NP) will represent Ward 3, Chase Guidry will serve Ward 5, and Wendie Hotard (R) will represent Ward 6.
Breaux Bridge, Parks and Henderson
Lee C. Durio (R) and Bart Hebert (R) will face off for Breaux Bridge City Court judge.
Breaux Bridge Mayor Ricky Calais, currently serving his third term after first being elected in 2014, did not seek reelection. Chester R. Cedars (R), the only candidate to qualify, will replace him.
Breaux Bridge Police Chief Albert “Buz” LeBlanc faces challenger Hubert Augustine (NP).
Aldermen Ryan Breaux (R), District A; Scotty Borel (D), District B; Neil Melancon (NP), District D; and Eddy J. LeBlanc (R), District E, will continue serving on the Breaux Bridge City Council. Albert Menard, the District C alderman, did not seek reelection. Brandy Celestine, the only candidate to qualify, will represent District C.
Voorhies “Jimmy” Dupuis will continue as city marshal.
In Parks, Mayor Kevin Kately (D) faces Amanda Poirier (R). “Reggie” Clues (D) is unopposed for police chief. The town’s aldermen will be “Yvonne” Narcise (D), Eva Craven Potier (D), and Trey Thibodeaux (R).
In Henderson, Kirk Thibodeaux (R) was the only candidate to qualify for town councilman.
