Parish Council asked to sign agreement regarding Bayou Chene Control Structure

St. Martin Parish is lone holdout on intergovernmental agreement

– St. Mary Levee District Executive Director Michael Brocato Jr. spoke to the St. Martin Parish Council at its meeting this past Tuesday about the Bayou Chene Control Structure, which can help prevent flooding in Lower St. Martin Parish by preventing water from pushing north during storms or other weather events.

The $80 million structure was completed south of Morgan City in 2022, protecting about 30,000 residents in six parishes along the east side of the Atchafalaya Basin from flooding.
