Breaux Bridge - The meeting was largely a routine housekeeping session as the Breaux Bridge City Council held its first monthly meeting of the new fiscal year in July.
Two guest speakers addressed the council: Mr. Denanberg asked that Camille subdivision be rezoned from R1 to R3. Following that, Bart Hebert announced his candidacy for city court judge.
Mayor Ricky Calais reported that June sales tax revenue totaled $752,972, which was $67,500 more than June 2025. For the fiscal year, sales tax revenues were up 3%.
The city engineer updated the council on street extensions, and land acquisitions for the project are expected to commence by the end of July.
In other business, the council approved Police Chief Buz LeBlanc’s recommendation to hire two officers, Kristopher Chad Brown and Byron Vincent Smith.
The council briefly entered executive session to discuss an issue related to sales tax collections. Additionally, the council introduced three new rezoning ordinances and approved the purchase of new playground equipment for Parc Hardy.
Finally, the council authorized the auction of surplus city vehicles and equipment.
