St. Martin Parish Sheriff Becket Breaux announced the promotion of two command staff members this past week.
Capt. Kenneth Sonnier, the former Assistant Warden at the St. Martin Parish Correction Center, has been promoted to the rank of major and has been assigned as Warden of the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center.
For the past 3 1/2 years, Sonnier served as the assistant warden, which provided him with the knowledge and experience required to perform his new role as warden, the sheriff said.
Sonnier has been employed at the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office for 18 years.
He has worked across multiple divisions, including patrol, where he served as the patrol supervisor and assistant shift supervisor, as well as the Criminal Investigations Division and Corrections Divisions.
Sonnier holds multiple certifications and has been an instructor at the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office Training Academy for the past several years.
Sonnier is a native of St. Martinville and a graduate of St. Martinville Senior High School.
Capt. Teddy Hulin, the former Criminal Investigative Division Commander, has been promoted to the rank of major and will serve as the enforcement commander.

Hulin began his career in law enforcement with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office in 1989, where he served in corrections before transitioning into narcotics enforcement.
He served on the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association’s Violent Crimes and Narcotics Task Force and the U.S. Customs’ Blue Lightning Task Force while in the Narcotics Division.
Hulin later returned to the private sector in 2003, where he and his wife built and ran a successful business.
Hulin returned to law enforcement in 2020 as a reserve deputy and resumed fulltime service in 2021. He led narcotics investigations, INTEL and the Street Crimes Unit, which later expanded into the Violent Crimes Task Force. In 2024, he was promoted to captain of the Criminal Investigative Division.
Hulin’s extensive training and experience in law enforcement and narcotics enforcement have prepared him for his new role as Enforcement Commander, the sheriff said.
Hulin is a lifelong resident of St. Martin Parish and a graduate of St. Martinville Senior High School.
