St. Martiville – The Justice Reform Initiative (JRI), in partnership with Mayor Jason Wi l lis, the City Counc il of St. Martinville, and the Clean Slate Initiative, will host a Free Expungement Document Preparation Clinic on Saturday, August 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sterling Alexander Community Center, 800 Isadore Dr.
This event reflects JRI’s and its partners’ shared commitment to restorative justice, second chances, and community empowerment.
Across Louisiana, more than 1.4 million adults live with an arrest or conviction record that continues to limit their opportunities. Even decades old records can still appear on background checks, and with 94% of employers, 90% of landlords, and 72% of colleges relying on background screening, many residents are shut out before they ever get a chance to move forward.
Expungement clinics help remove those longstanding barriers, restoring access to employment, housing, — and offering a real pathway to a better future.
Justice Reform Initiative provides expungement assistance in all 64 parishes across Louisiana.
While this clinic serves St. Martinville and surrounding communities, any resident from any parish is welcome to attend and receive support.
Participants will receive free, personalized assistance with expungement paperwork, helpin them take critical steps toward employment, housing, and stability. While document preparation is free, attendees are responsible for any applicable court filing fees.
“Expungement clinics give people the chance to reclaim their future,” said Angela Gordon, Outreach Director for JRI. “We’re proud to partner with Mayor Willis, the City Council of St. Martinville, and the Clean Slate Initiative to help residents move beyond the limitations of their past and open doors to new opportunities.”
JRI is an approved pro bono agency for (CLE) credit in Louisiana. Attorneys who volunteer five hours of service— including preclinic preparation, onsite support, or postclinic followup—will earn one hour of CLE credit.
