100 Years Ago July 14, 1926
The American Legion will hold their annual convention in Lake Charles. Lake Charles is preparing to show the Legionaries a splendid time. The following delegates are going from this town: Judge James D. Simon, Dr. P.H. Fleming, Mr. Lawrence Bonin and Mr. C J. Edwards.
Dr. D. A. Fournet attended the meeting of the Third District Dental Society which was held in Franklin. Table clinics were conducted by various doctors. Officers elected for the coming year were Dr. J. C. LeBourgeois of Morgan City, President; Dr. D. A. Fournet, of St. Martinville, Vice-President ; and Dr. J.A. Comeaux of Youngville, Secretary-Treasurer.
Mrs. Leo Bulliard entertaned Tuesday afternoon at Bridge. Prizes were won by Miss Orleans Bienvenu and Mrs. Dan DeBlanc while Mrs. W. J. Bienvenu cut for consolation. The guest prize was won by Miss Inez Bienvenu.
Miss Mina Guidry entertained a Bridge club Tuesday night. Mrs. D. A. Bienvenu won first prize; Miss Orleans Bienvenu won second prize; and Mrs. J. J. Burdin received the consolation prize.
Wednesday night Miss Estelle Bulliard entertained Bridge. Miss Estelle Bulliard won the first prize, Mrs. J. J. Burdin won the second prize; and Mrs. D. A. Bienvenu received the consolation.
The twentieth annual session of the Lake Charles District Conference will commence at the Mallalieu Methodist-Episcopal church beginning July 21 and ending July 25. The following committee is in charge; Rev. W. H. Jones, local pastor, Rev. W. H.Lang, District Superintendent; and Rt. Rev R. E. Jones, Bishop of the New Orleans area.

Paul Olivier was the 1976 St. Martin Parish Men’s Singles Tennis Champ, while Jerry Durand and Danny Guidry claimed the Doubles title.
Henry “Slick” Signorelli was the recipient of the 1976 Lions Club Outstanding Citizen Award.
The St. Martin School Board purchased eight new school buses at a total cost of $116,604.
St. Martinville Lioness Club officers were Inez Gauthier, president; Lou Potier, vice president; Sydney Mae Durand, secretary; and Loretta La-Comb, treasurer.
Cathy Coles of Breaux Bridge was elected to serve on the state 4-H Executive Working Committee.
Officers of the Breaux Bridge Volunteer Fire Department were Roland Green, president; George Hebert III, vice president, Burton Dupuis, secretary-treasurer; Earl Hollier, sergeant at arms; Percy Castille, assistant chief; and John Allen Breaux, chief.
St. Martinville Co. B, 199th Support Bn. received the coveted Eisenhower Trophy as the top National Guard unit in the state.

Former St. Martinville Sr. High standout athlete Adam Pierre, took top honors in the 110meter hurdles at the TAC-USA Youth Athletics National Track and Field championship held at Elmhurst, Ill..
St. Martinville Sr. High cheerleader Linette Hebert was selected to represent SMSH as a cheerleader at the High School All-Star football game held at LSU.
Jamie Smith of Breaux Bridge was elected state 4-H vice president. Claire Bienvenu of St. Martinville was elected parish representative.
The Woodmen of the World announced the winners of their Fourth of July Baby Contest. They included in the 0-six months category girls, 1st-Nikki Guidry, 2nd-Martha Devillier, 3rd-Sophia Bergeron. Boys, 1st-Blaise Dupuis, 2nd-Abel-Paul Bonin, and 3rd-Dusty Louviere. In the 7 to 11 months category girls, 1st-Heather Russo, 2nd-Meagan Bonin, and 3rd-Tara Calvit. Boys 1st-Cody Laperouse, 2nd-Chad Champagne, and 1-Meko Belarie.

Contractors began major operations on the widening of Breaux Bridge’s busy Rees Street (La.328). Huge culverts were brought in to drain water from the highway to Bayou Teche.
Visitation to Louisiana’s state parks came in record numbers for the second year in a row. The 1.9 million visitors total for the fiscal year ending June 30 broke the various years record mark of 1.7 million by 15 percent.
