I guess we should be grateful we’re not suffering from the heat like the people in France. And elsewhere. It is hot here, no question. My Michigan sister says her weather is forecast to be in the mid to high 90’s next week and I think my daughter in Tennessee says pretty much the same.
The Purple Martins are gone and the Hummigbirds have not returned as yet to my feeder even though one was spied here week ago. It hasn’t been back.
It is preparing to rain this afternoon and I’m looking forward to it. My yard is freshly mowed. Somebody is mowing the yard next door. The river is still and smooth. The flag hangs limp.
In case you’re ever interested, Chair Yoga times have been changed. We will still meet in the Belle River Community center on Tuesday nights at 5:40 pm and now also on Thursday night at the same time, same place. The Wednesday class was bumping into too many obstacles. Doctor’s appointments, baby sitting, etc. I don’t expect a crowd on Thursday but maybe it will offer an option to busy seniors.
It is thundering now and the wind has slacked.
I do appreciate ordering things online and having them delivered to my house, but lately many of the things my neighbor has ordered are delivered to my house. It’s no problem taking them to her but so far I’ve been lucky to see the package on the cement before I ran over it.
It will probably not be of any use to you, but just In case, Lady Chops, the female drummer who is so good will be performing in the Post 284 American Legion Hall in Labadieville on July 17 at 10:00 a.m. And the day before on July 16 also at 10:00 a.m., Frank and Tammy’s Magic Show will perform in the Bayou L’Ourse Community Center. These two venues have been so nice to provide space for the summer reading program and shows when the libraries themselves are too small for a crowd. And have to mention that the Pierre Part Library on Hwy. 70 has just had an electronic sign installed in their yard so now announcements can be posted digitally. I don’t know how many hours I’ve spend inserting those plastic letters into the slots of mechanical signs. It looks so easy to do, but takes hours at times to spell out an event. Now if we could only get an actual library over here that would be great.
There is a Little Free Library at the Belle River Community Center, one at the Stephsnsville School, and one at Stephensville Park. That’s great but a real bricks and mortar library would be super!
Here’s the rain!!!! It sounds wonderful. Before it started, there was a little wind and cypress balls were blowing off the trees onto the tin roof. What a noise they make. And now I realize that the squirrels and birds have not been feeding on my deck all morning so maybe they knew bad weather was coming. My youngest daughter gave me a metal bird feeder that clamps on the porch railing and it’s popular with the squirrels who actually lay in it to eat. I toss seed on the deck for the birds who don’t have a chance at the feeder.
Not sure quite why, but I’ve been cleaning bookshelves lately and it is very painful. I still have copies of Herodotus and the Fall of Rome, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich,. Also the complete works of Shakespeare, among others. Now, who in my family would ever want them? One of my daughters is a reader but not of ancient history. It’s been kind of fun, though, to take books down and realize I don’t remember reading it. I have recently reread the Song of Hiawatha, Black Beauty and White Fang. (I love animal stories! The books are old but worth nothing money-wise. I’m ashamed to confess that I’ve bundled some into plastic bags and tossed them in the trash can! That is awful!
