Parks council gets update on new well

Parks — The Parks Village Council addressed two major items during its June meeting, focusing on the close of the current fiscal year and progress on a long-awaited infrastructure project.

The council approved the budget for the 2026–2027 fiscal year, which begins next month. Mayor Kevin Kately noted that the budget remains largely unchanged.

“The budget really doesn’t change much from year to year,” Kately said. “Expenses stay about the same, and this year is no different.”

Following the budget approval, Kately updated the council on the new water well project. He reported that initial water samples from the well tested clear. The next steps include installing the casing, conducting additional testing, and, if results remain positive, adding the motor to begin operation.

Well

“Hopefully, we’ll have the new well up and running within a month or so,” Kately said.

The mayor also shared several additional updates. Construction is set to begin soon on the foundation for the new library. The village received a $500 donation from the Ledet family to install a new fan at the park pavilion. In addition, Kately presented an honorary key to the city to Father Stephen Melancon, a Parks native who was recently ordained and celebrated his first Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

With no further business, the council adjourned until July.
