A message of hope

As I’ve been doing for many years now, I attended a Men’s Retreat at Our Lady of the Oaks in Grand Coteau on June 4 thru 7 this year. A restful time, a prayerful experience, quiet moments for the mind (and reflections).

While reading Scripture in the quiet one day, I came across a passage in Psalm 90 that caught my attention. I quote: “Seventy is the sum of our years, Or eighty if we are strong, And Most of them are fruitless toil. For they pass quickly and we drift away.”

How true, how thought provoking. With the fast pace in today’s world, and as age comes upon us, how often do we take time to thank God for our blessings.

There are so many we overlook. Yet we are so quick to spend time complaining and regretting what life has given us.

Our capacity to place regrets and failures above our good fortunes and blessings takes up so much more of our time.

It need not, it should not, be so. We need not look far to count the blessings that God has given us in this life.

For many, it has become the norm in our lives.

Discouragement and failure: yes. Unfortunate happenings: yes. Yet, if we search our hearts and minds about our many blessings, they will far outweigh the shortcomings.

May we begin each day, then, giving thanks to God and accept our role in this life as we prepare for the next.

I feel certain that joy and happiness will reign over gloom and sorrow.

Challenging: yes. Believe in Jesus. He is our salvation.

Many blessings, Respectfully, Leo “Pope” Huval Cecilia
