BB council allocates funds for infrastructure

Breaux Bridge — A key topic at the May meeting of the Breaux Bridge City Council was whether to allocate funds from the Special Taxing District.

Council members ultimately approved using the funds for several projects, including repairs to the city’s sewer and water systems, engineering costs for the Mills Avenue Extension project, construction of an access road to property north of Interstate 10, and improvements to local parks.

Mayor Ricky Calais did not provide specific figures but reported that sales tax revenue for the current fiscal year is slightly higher than last year. He also noted that the city remains well under budget as the fiscal year approaches its end in June.

In other business, the council adopted a resolution recognizing the completion of a new filter system at the city’s water plant. Members also approved the hiring of Brandon Gauthreaux as a patrol officer.

Funds

Additionally, the council introduced ordinances to amend the current fiscal year budget and to adopt the budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year.

The council later entered executive session to receive an update from the city’s attorneys regarding the proposed RaceTrac truck stop.

Finally, officials opened bids for surplus city vehicles and equipment as part of an upcoming auction.
