Henderson — The Henderson Town Council covered a range of routine business during its May meeting, with discussions focused on parks, infrastructure, and new digital initiatives.
Park Commissioner Dale Duplichien presented details about a proposed community bonfire event planned for the weekend before Christmas. He asked council members to review the proposal and indicated it could be brought to a vote at a future meeting. Duplichien also suggested adding a beach volleyball court at the site of the former batting cages and proposed the addition of a pickleball court.
Blake Berard of ROOK A.I. Labs addressed the council regarding the development of an official town website. The proposed site would promote Henderson, highlight local events, and provide information on dining and lodging options for visitors. Following the presentation, the council approved a one-year contract with ROOK A.I. Labs at a cost of $600 per month to build and maintain the website.
City Attorney Jerry Mallet informed the council of a recent park incident in which a falling tree branch damaged a vehicle. Mallet said he has contacted the city’s insurance provider and has begun the claims process.
In other business, the council adopted an ordinance related to occupational licenses and approved millage rates for the upcoming year. Police Chief Troy Dupuis was granted a $15,000 salary increase.
The council also approved an increase in funding for the town’s new sewer system, raising the project total from $4.1 million to $4.5 million to cover the cost of an additional tank and installation.
