SM city elections, statewide amendments on ballot Saturday

Municipal primary elections and statewide amendments are among the items on the ballot in St. Martin Parish when voting stations open Saturday at 7 a.m.

Polls will be open until 8 p.m. Voters will be asked to identify themselves with a photo ID.

Voters may use a Louisiana driver’s license, a Louisiana special identification card, a United States military identification card that contains the person’s name and picture or other generally recognized picture identification card that has the holder’s name and signature.

Statewide Closed Party primaries for U.S. Senate races are on the ballot, but because of a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision and the decision by the state to redraw U.S. Congressional districts, elections for the House of Representatives are on hold until the districts are redrawn.

Ballot

Voters in St. Martinville will choose a mayor and council members in districts 1, 3 and 4. Only one candidate qualified for each of the other two districts and those candidates will serve on the council as a result.

Five Constitutional amendments are also on the Open Primary ballot for all voters in the parish.

Early voting concluded on Saturday. In St. Martin Parish, 8.9 percent of voters (3,153 of the 35,248 registered voters) cast an early ballot.
