For awhile I thought there would be no election on May 16 but now I know that’s not quite true. Honestly, I’m ashamed to admit that I’m not sure what I will be voting for but I will vote and before then I’ll read and listen. I don’t want to be totally uninformed.
I am more frustrated by the weather than the elections. First I’m cold and put some heat on in the house. Then I drag out the short sleeved Tshirts because it’s getting warm. I’m not sleeping soundly because I leave the heat off then wake in the middle of the night and I get too warm. It’s pitiful getting old! And I get cold easily.
Bingo today, May 5 was a packed house. We had to put up an extra table. Next game is May 19 if you’re over this way.
Unfortunately I will miss the Wednesday Yoga class since I and several others who comprise the Assumption Friends of the Library will be delivering sandwich trays to the parish schools for Teacher Appreciation Week.
A teacher friend tells me his students in 6th grade can’t read! And I’m hearing more and more that some schools are limiting the use of devices— computers, et al. I know I’m old and don’t understand all this electronic stuff but I don’t think kids in my era, my time, suffered when they had to have books and pencils and paper. I’m not knocking technology, indeed I wish I was more adept at all these new things but I don’t think ‘throwing the baby out with the bath water’ is creating educated young people.
And while I’m sort of being an old lady, is it just one of the newspapers I get in which the police report seems to feature older people?. Oh sure, there are the usual DWI and fights with teenagers, mid-20’s, but a of people in this police report are older, in their 40s and 50s. And a lot of women! And mostly drug related offenses. Are women just being caught more often? Is it that maybe there’s less physical violence involved in crimes that women and older people get into? Drugs, theft, fraud?
Second Harvest is having some staff changes and the person I now contact with issues is new. I was delighted when this lady called me to say the three new applications I sent in would be honored, not just put on a waiting list. I hope that continues. The roster of Stephensville is growing longer while the list of people in Belle River is getting shorter.
As I write, at least one squirrel is running across my metal roof making a lot of noise. The squirrels run on the power lines, jump off onto the peak of the roof and then chase each other along the metal roof. Sometimes I go out and yell at them but they mostly just look at me.
I drove to Napoleonville yesterday, twice, and along the side of Hwy. 70 before the Dow Chemical plant was a quite large dead creature. The first time I passed I figured it was an alligator or maybe a dog but when I passed the other way and was able to slow down I realized it was a pig. A hog! Very dead with feet sticking up. I have never seen a pig/hog, a wild one, ever although I’ve heard they are prevalent more to the south. I don’t think this one was a tame variety.
