A reading from the holy gospel according to John
Jesus said to his disciples: If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Paraclete, that he may abide with you forever. The spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it sees him not, nor knows him: but you shall know him; because he shall abide with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you orphans, I will come to you. Yet a little while: and the world sees me no more. But you see me: because I live, and you shall live. In that day you shall know, that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. He that has my commandments, and keeps them; it is he that loves me. And he that loves me, shall be loved of my Father: and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Si vous m’aimez, gardez mes commandements. Et moi, je prierai le Père, et il vous donnera un autre consolateur, afin qu’il demeure éternellement avec vous, l’Esprit de vérité, que le monde ne peut recevoir, parce qu’il ne le voit point et ne le connaît point; mais vous, vous le connaissez, car il demeure avec vous, et il sera en vous. Je ne vous laisserai pas orphelins, je viendrai à vous. Encore un peu de temps, et le monde ne me verra plus; mais vous, vous me verrez, car je vis, et vous vivrez aussi. En ce jour-là, vous connaîtrez que je suis en mon Père, que vous êtes en moi, et que je suis en vous. Celui qui a mes commandements et qui les garde, c’est celui qui m’aime; et celui qui m’aime sera aimé de mon Père, je l’aimerai, et je me ferai connaître à lui.
