By Mayor Jason Willis
Four years ago, I made the decision to run for Mayor because of my deep love for this community and my unwavering commitment to the people of our city. I believed then, as I still believe now, that our city has unlimited potential. I knew we could build a future that reflects the strength of our history, the pride of our people, and the promise of what lies ahead.
From the very beginning, one of the most important principles of my campaign was unity. I knew our city could never truly prosper if our people remained divided. I believed that if we put God first, worked together, and focused on what unites us rather than what divides us, we could accomplish great things. Leadership should bring people together, listen to every voice, and move a city forward—not backward.
When you entrusted me to serve as your Mayor, our city was facing serious challenges. We were burdened with financial deficits, outdated infrastructure, broken equipment, aging city vehicles, rising crime, and a damaged reputation. Many had lost hope in what our city could become.
I came before you asking for one opportunity—a chance to serve, to lead, and to help restore faith in our future. By the grace of God, with hard work, sound planning, and the support of our citizens, we were able to do just that.
Together, we turned a financial deficit into a surplus and brought stability back to City Hall. We secured over $18 million in funding to begin replacing outdated infrastructure and improving essential services. We invested in new heavy equipment and public works vehicles, installed LED street lighting, and implemented new AMI smart meters to provide more accurate utility billing.
Public safety became a priority. We placed surveillance cameras in high-crime areas, purchased new police vehicles and equipment, and worked diligently to significantly reduce crime rates across our city.
We also focused on improving quality of life for our residents and families. We upgraded and beautified our festival grounds, built new pavilions at Adam Carlson Park and by the swimming pool, added a new restroom at Magnolia Park, and created new pickleball courts for recreation and community enjoyment.
We developed a Vision Plan to guide future growth, implemented stronger policies and procedures to improve accountability and reduce fraud, and launched a city app to keep citizens informed and connected. We also advocated for the passage of the Lawrason Act to create a stronger form of government for the future of our city.
These are only some of the accomplishments we achieved together in just four short years. We went from uncertainty to progress, from division to unity, and from standing still to moving forward. We cannot afford to go backward now.
There is still much more work to be done. The foundation has been laid, momentum has been built, and our future is brighter than it has been in years. If something is working, we should continue building upon it—not tear it down.
Four years ago, I asked you to give me a chance. Today, I humbly ask for your trust once again. Re-elect me as your Mayor so we can continue the progress we started, finish the work ahead, and keep moving our city forward together.
With faith, unity, and hard work, our best days are still ahead.
