Breaux Bridge will be the highest-seeded of the three St. Martin Parish high school baseball teams entering the 2026 playoffs.
Official power rankings and playoff pairings were not scheduled to be released until after deadline for today’s newspaper, but the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s final unofficial power rankings were published on Monday and all three St. Martin Parish squads had earned high enough rankings to get playoff bids.
Breaux Bridge (20-11) was 13th in the Division II Non-Select power rankings. The Tigers are unofficially scheduled to open the playoffs against No. 20 Cecilia (15-15), their District 5-4A and St. Martin Parish rivals.
St. Martinville (13-13) is seeded 23rd in Non-Select Division III and is unofficially set to open the playoffs at No. 10 Caldwell Parish (21-12).
Each round of the Division I, II and III baseball playoffs is a best-of-three series. The top 26 teams earn playoff bids in Divisions I, II and III, with the top six teams drawing first-round byes.
The first round begins today with the second round to begin on April 22.
Breaux Bridge lost to Catholic High of New Iberia 6-2 on April 7, beat Lacassine 15-3 on Thursday and lost to Kaplan 14-7 on Friday.
The Tigers had four hits against Catholic High but could only score two runs in the sixth inning.
The Panthers had three runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to win.
Evan Theriot went 1-for-2 with two RBIs to pace the Tigers at the plate. Benjamin Ellender, Kaynon Ardoin and Kyson Rebert added singles and Rebert and Chase Broussard scored for BBHS.
Bryce Melancon allowed two runs on five hits with three walks over 3 2/3 innings in taking the loss. Caynon Ardoin pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed three hits and four runs, two earned, with two walks and a strikeout. Hayden Stelly pitched one inning and allowed two hits with one strikeout.
In the win over Lacassine, Breaux Bridge pounded out 12 hits and scored runs in every inning except the fourth, getting one in the first, one in the second, four in the third, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and five in the seventh.
Lacassine had a run in the fourth and two in the seventh.
Caynon Ardoin went 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored to lead the Tigers.
Charlie Frederick added a double with two RBIs, Chase Broussard had a hit with two RBIs and two runs, Evan Theriot went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Tripton Kays had a hit and two RBIs, Benjamin Ellender went 2-for-3, Sam Armentor went 1-for-4 with a run, Bryce Melancon had a hit with an RBI and two runs, and Kyson Rebert and Gage Soileau each scored twice.
Hayden Stelly pitched five innings for the win, allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts. Caymen Theriot allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout in two innings of relief work.
Cecilia split a pair of District 5-4A games with Livonia this past week, falling 14-4 at home to the Wildcats on April 7 before winning 9-5 at Livonia on Thursday. The Bulldogs also beat Westgate 13-3 in a non-district game on April 8.
St. Martinville went 2-1 this past week, beating Berchmans Academy 10-3 on Thursday, falling to Centerville 5-0 on Friday and beating Episcopal School of Acadiana 4-2 on Saturday, all on the road.
