Garden Club Arbor Day, shelter drive festivities set

St. Martinville — The St. Martinville Garden Club is inviting the community to join in a special celebration of Arbor Day and a monthlong effort to support local animals in need.

The Arbor Day Celebration will take place on Thurs., April 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Martin Parish Animal Shelter, located at 1004 Industrial Park Road in St. Martinville. During the ceremony, a commemorative tree will be planted on the shelter grounds, symbolizing growth, renewal, and the community’s commitment to both nature and animal welfare. The celebration will also include remarks from city and community leaders.

In addition to the tree planting, the Garden Club has organized an Animal Food & Supplies Drive running from April 1 through April 30. Donations can be dropped off at Community First Bank locations in St. Martinville and Breaux Bridge.

Items most needed include dog and cat food, kitten milk and bottles, canned pet foods such as Fancy Feast and Friskies, pill pockets, cleaning supplies (paper towels, Fabuloso, Pine-Sol, laundry detergent, dish soap, and bleach), and other essentials to help the shelter care for its animals.
