Breaux Bridge baseball goes 2-2 during past week of play

The Breaux Bridge High School baseball team went 2-2 last week including a win in the team’s lone District 5-4A game.

BBHS lost to Opelousas Catholic 13-3 but beat Opelousas in a district outing, 16-1. The Tigers then lost 3-2 to Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy and beat Northwest 16-1. A second district game against Opelousas was canceled as well.

Breaux Bridge was outhit only 6-4 vs. Opelousas Catholic but gave up 10 more runs.

Sam Armentor went 2-3 with an RBI, Benjamin Ellender doubled, and Caynon Ardoin had a hit and two RBIs for the Tigers.

Bryce Melancon surrendered six runs, five earned, on two hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in 1.1 innings pitched. Charlie Frederick gave up four hits and seven runs, five earned, with three walks and a strikeout in 2 2/3 innings.

In the win over Opelousas, the Tigers scored 18 runs in the first inning of a game shortened to two innings by run rule.

Sam Armentor went 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and three runs. Caynon Ardoin doubled and drove in a run, Kyson Rebert had a hit with two RBIs and two runs, Caymen Theriot had an RBI and two runs, Christian Camacho added an RBI and a run and Kai Lalonde, Chase Broussard and Evan Theriot each scored twice.

Theriot was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits and one run over two innings with no walks and five strikeouts.

ARCA scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip the Tigers on March 25.

Sam Armentor tripled, Benjamin Ellender went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Caynon Ardoin had a hit and an RBI.

Armentor took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

In the win over Northwest, the Tigers hammered out eight hits in scoring 16 runs. BBHS had runs in all five innings, including three innings of three or more runs.

Benjamin Ellender went 1-for-2, Caymen Theriot had a hit with an RBI, Caynon Ardoin tripled and drove in a run, Bryce Melancon had a double and two RBIs, Kyson Rebert added a double and an RBI, Kai Lalonde went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs and Chase Broussard also had a hit. Caynon Ardoin pitched five innings for the win, allowing three hits and one run. He walked only one and struck out 11 batters.

The Cecilia Bulldogs lost a pair of non district games, falling to Vermilion Catholic 9-0 on March 24 and to Notre Dame 6-5 on Friday.

The two losses snapped a five-game win streak and left the Bulldogs at 13-12 overall and 3-0 in District 5-4A.

The St. Martinville Tigers dropped a pair of District 5-3A games to Erath (13-2 on March 24) and Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy (10-0 on Thursday) but bounced back with 5-2 and 17-0 wins in a Saturday doubleheader sweep of East Beauregard.

The Tigers are 10-11 overall and 1-2 in District 5-3A.
