St. Martinville man convicted of second degree murder

New Iberia – A 37-year-old St. Martinville man was unanimously convicted by a jury on second degree murder charges on Thursday, 16th Judicial District Attorney M. Michael Haik III said, Joshua James Davis’s conviction stems from the murder of Jordan Bulliard in May of 2021 in St. Martinville.

After his arrest, Davis gave a statement to law enforcement of- ficers that he encoun tered the victim and got angry that the victim did not have any marijuana to give him.

Davis claimed that the victim “said something” that Davis did not quite hear, which is why Davis drew his gun.

Murder

The victim was unarmed when Davis shot him three times. Davis then fled the scene.

The murder weapon and the clothing the defendant was wearing at the time of the offense were located in the defendant’s hotel room; casings from the crime scene matched the weapon. The defendant’s DNA was found on the murder weapon.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 26 before the Hon. Suzanne de Mahy. The mandatory penalty for second degree murder is life imprisonment at hard labor without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.

The case was prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Alister Charrier with the assistance of Olivia Frederick. The case was investigated by the St. Martinville Police Department with assistance from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory.

The District Attorney’s Office said it would like to thank Detectives Donald Johnson and Nick Leboeuf, as well as Sergeant Dina Theriot for their hard work on this case.
