Baja St. Martin

I was just beginning to enjoy what I thought was the beginning of nice, warm weather when this latest cold spell hit. It hasn’t been so bad except for the day the wind blew. Not only was it cold, but that wind just went right through my clothes.

I have a doggy door, as I’m sure I’ve said, and it is on the north side of my house which, of course, is the worst place in the world for an opening in the wall. The plastic covering flap flies open in a strong wind so I have to barricade it at times.

This morning it is still in the 40s but doesn’t seem so cold and the wind is not blowing. The sun is shining and from the appearance of the flag on my front deck, the wind is out of the south.

I attended the most interesting workshop the other day at the Pierre Part Library. It was called Geomatics and was taught by NSU professor John Dennis. I believe NSU is trying to attract more engineering students and this workshop was a way to introduce this topic. Dr. Dennis was very down to earth, but I still didn’t understand a lot except to know that it has to do with a lot of other location techniques.

This workshop was attended by one other woman who sure knew and understood a lot more than I did. Anyway, if you see anything about Geomatics, maybe you might check it out.

More on the local home front. I had one hummingbird at my feeder but then the wind blew so strongly, he/ she hasn’t been back. Maybe it will show up today. The temperature is supposed to get into the 70’s.

I do have stray cats, unfortunately. They come in the night and the dog barks and it wakes me. Thankfully, no stray dogs that I’m aware of.

Hoping my friend Mr. Huet is getting better after breaking his hip.

Food for Seniors is March 26 at the Stephensville Fire Station and then in Belle River. Yoga continues every Tuesday evening at 5:45 and then Wednesday mornings at 10. Classes seem to be leveling off at about 5, 6 or 7 each time. Drop in if you’re ever around.

Bingo for Seniors is every first and third Tuesday of each month. Attendance at that is usually between 20 and 30. Deborah Gaspard runs the games with the help of Judy Lawrence and others. I seldom win anything, but it’s fun gossiping and gabbing. Somebody always brings an edible treat. We have water and coffee. Often someone will bring some freebies-hand sewn pockets, of course the free spices from LSU, books in the Little Free Library outside and on the table. Just a nice get together.

My younger sister and her friend flew from Michigan to south Florida recently to escape the northern cold. Their outbound flight was postponed one day so all their arrangements in the south---B&B, boat trips, etc., were off schedule and my sister said her flight home to Detroit was a bit rough, but they made it ok.

One of the Yoga ladies just returned from a visit with family in Boston and she had no flight problems at all. Guess it just depended where you were going.

I used to travel a lot by plane but no longer. Getting around airports is tiring. I do love to hear of other people’s trips. I have a lot of great memories.
