Parks officials announce start of new well project

Parks – The highlight of the March meeting of the Parks Village Town Council was the announcement that work has finally begun on the long-awaited new well.

“They started digging the well today,” Mayor Kevin Kately said. “The big news is that construction is officially underway, and it should take about six months to complete. It’s been a long process, but it’s finally coming together.”

Mayor Kately explained that once finished, the new well will give the town something it hasn’t had before — a reliable backup source.

“When we drew up our wish list back in 2016, we didn’t really have a backup plan,” he said. “Now, if one of our existing wells has a problem, we’ll have something to fall back on.”

The project will also allow the village to add and extend water lines, opening the door for new subdivisions and improving service across the system. The mayor noted that the additional capacity will make it possible to flush the system more regularly, helping to clear up the water.

With the well project underway, the town is also preparing for the next round of water meter replacements.

“We’ve already replaced about 1,000 meters,” Kately said. “Once the well is complete, we can look at adding another 200 to 250 meters in the next phase.”

In other business, Mayor Kately discussed the Louisiana Asset Management Program (LAMP) account. The village currently has about $500,000 in the fund, and he proposed adding another $200,000 to earn more interest while keeping the funds available for future needs. No action was taken as details are still being finalized.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned until April.
