Henderson — The Town of Henderson council’s March meeting featured the swearing-in of a new council member and another executive session concerning MPERS.
Kirk Taylor took the oath of office to replace Chantelle Wiltz, who resigned after serving just one month. Taylor will serve as a temporary appointee until the November election.
During the meeting, the council approved the purchase of lawnmowers totaling $5,000 for the maintenance department to facilitate grass cutting along the interstate.
Councilwoman Judy Broussard addressed the group about Cecilia High School’s Academic Pep Rally and its tradition of providing graduating seniors with gifts to support their college pursuits. The council voted to donate $1,000 to the event.
MPERS
Police Chief Troy Dupuis informed members that the insurance claim for a wreck that occurred in September 2024 had been settled. A new patrol unit has been ordered to replace the damaged vehicle, funded by the insurance payment and the department’s capital outlay budget.
Mayor Sherbin Collette announced that Park Commissioner Marvin Serrette will retire at the end of March. Serrette recommended Dale Duplechein as his successor, and the council voted to authorize the mayor to hire Duplechein for the position.
After an executive session regarding MPERS, the council authorized the mayor and town attorneys to accept a settlement offer of $160,000, if presented.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned until April.
