Baja St. Martin

The weather lastweek was beautiful. I’ve managed to get one small flower bed cleaned and freshly planted although I ran afoul of a red ant nest which I will deal with today.

Actually, I see suspicious piles in several places so I may need to purchase some more poison. With the rain lately, the grass is growing almost fast enough to see. On the levee, I have to sit on the edge of the drive because the grass is so tall.

And I have to say here that people should stop dumping junk on the levee. Below where I and my friends usually sit people are dumping all sorts of stuff—some pretty large. What’s odd is the levee board, or I assume it’s the levee board is cleaning one of the boat launch ramps just up the road and dumping the dirt on the levee, but they’re dumping it beside the trash piles not on them. I would seem nice if the junk could be covered as long as the dirt was being put there anyway, but apparently that’s not the plan. So now there’s a long strip of freshly dumped dirt beside the trash!

This time change is hard to get used to. I am sleeping until 7:30 a.m. and half the day is gone before I really start moving.

The power was off for about an hour and a half Tuesday, Mar. 10. Report said unknown cause but people were saying it was a transformer problem. Apparently the power was off for most if not all of Pierre Part and up to the Stephensville line. I have a generator which works just fine except it is supposed to start automatically and doesn’t. Rather than turn it on which is easy to do, I just opened the front and back doors, pulled a chair into the shade on the front deck and stretched out. A nice breeze kept me cool and I didn’t even turn on the generator. I did hear some running across the river. My neighbors have a gas powered generator but didn’t have it running. This was all about 4:30 p.m. so it didn’t seem too critical.

One more Yoga today and then it’s quiet at the community center until next week with Bingo.

I want to thank Mrs. Brew at the St. Martinville library for all the books she has sent over for our Little Free Library Box. My Friends of the Library friends are now filling six boxes and right now the trunk of my car is overflowing with books awaiting space.

Must have been 8 p.m. last night when the north wind started blowing, my porch chairs began moving across the deck and the rain started. It didn’t last long but the temperature dropped a lot. This morning the sun is shining but it’s a little cool and the north wind still is brisk.

Unfortunately, the north wind blows open my doggy door flap on the north side of the house so I have to keep it shut which means the dog can’t go out at will. I don’t think she minds that much.

I had an eye doctor appointment this morning and things were pretty much the same. My prescription hasn’t changed much from last visit. I am thinking of getting new glasses with transition lenses because I have trouble seeing in the sun and now need my prescription lenses for most everything. I can buy sunglasses but they aren’t prescription. I invested into an apparatus which hangs off my visor with a yellow sheet and it helps but not enough. Something to consider.

I stopped at Stephensville Elementary on my way home today and added a few books to the Little Free Library in the school driveway. I was told a teacher was responsible for the box but I don’t know who.

I am reading books by Bernard Cornwell right now on the Civil War. They feature a Yankee who fights for the Confederacy. The fight descriptions are very graphic and while I know the books are fiction, I think there must be some truth in the details. If true, it’s amazing how little the south and north knew about each other.
