Baja St. Martin

I attended a luncheon for retired teachers even though I did not feel very well. Sadly, not many retirees were in attendance but it was a good meeting anyway. We elected new officers after much discussion. Usually there are quite a few people for this annual lunch but not today and it was hard to get someone to commit to holding office. I think, when all was said and done, we managed to elect a secretary, treasurer and vice president but nobody would accept the presidency so that’s on the aganda for the next meeting.

Then I came home to find a text telling me there was another meeting that I had just missed since I wasn’t home to go or not. Must be the time of year for nobody to commit or everybody is busy.

It is a beautiful day. Going into the 80s I think. My grass is freshly mowed even though it didn’t need cutting. But it looks nice and neat. I’m hoping to shake off the cold I’ve been fighting all week and head to town to buy a few plants for my flower beds. I don’t even have a box garden anymore, but I do have several grow bags and I think I should be able to get at least one tomato plant going.

The Belle River bridge is nearly level right now and I assume it’s operating for river boat traffic. My weather app doesn’t indicate any serious cold weather coming so maybe it’s time to take away the warning pylons from the bridge approaches and certainly time to plant some flowers.

I missed one Yoga class, but managed to attend the next. The class was small since most of the ladies who do come for yoga had also gone for Bingo in Morgan City or somewhere. Anyway, it was a good class and despite my not feeling super, it felt good to do the exercises. Every session we choose another video to follow. Some are more complicated than others. Some shorter. We tried a new one last week which none of us liked since the instructor spoke too fast and talked too much. At least for our liking.

I came home, curled up in the easy chair and took a nap until just now. I was awakened by pretty heavy rain. Badly needed but not expected. My grass is getting greener by the day. Now I hear thunder. I had thought of buying some bedding flowers this weekend but may have to wait.

The Meyer Lemon that was frozen this past winter might be putting up green shoots but I’m not sure so I think I may buy a new one. The Orchid tree needs pruning—probably cutting back to near ground level but I won’t buy another.

I heard on the car radio that because of the problems in the Straits of Hormuz the price of gas is going up here. Good thing my car gets good mileage.

Now the rain is coming down again. Not hard but steady and lots of thunder rumbling. I have a meeting to attend this evening but I ride with friends so I won’t have to be out in the weather. I don’t drive after dark anymore and especially not in the rain.

I got a nice email from a cousin I haven’t heard from in several years. He is a retired attorney, I think, and has been raising these short horned, short legged, shaggy haired cattle but told me he had leased his herd and land to a breeder. So now he and wife can enjoy watching the cows but don’t have to care for them.

He doesn’t remember, but as a child I’d spend time at his parent’s house, playing in the barn with the man who milked the cows. Oddly, I always remember that all the cats in the barn had very short tails, having been stepped on often.
