Bryce Melancon and Caynon Ardoin threw consecutive completegame, one-hit shutouts for the Breaux Bridge High baseball team this past week, with the Tigers beating Loreauville 4-0 on the road on March 3 and then downing West Ouachita 7-0 on Thursday in Ascension Episcopal’s Richard Chalmers Invitational baseball tournament.
The Tigers lost to St. Louis Catholic 5-2 on Friday in the tournament.
Breaux Bridge was 9-7 overall by the end of the week.
Against Loreauville, Melancon struck out five batters and did not walk any in seven full innings while giving up just one hit.
Sam Armentor doubled and scored a run and Caynon Ardoin singled and drove in two runs for BBHS. The Tigers scored two runs on errors in the first inning.
Against West Ouachita, Ardoin surrendered just one hit and two walks while striking out seven over seven innings to earn the win.
Ardoin also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Christian Camacho added a hit and an RBI. Benjamin Ellender, Kyson Rebert and Chase Broussard each had a hit and Bryce Melancon drove in a run.
The Tigers managed only four hits and surrendered nine against St. Louis, and committed three errors in the loss.
Caynon Ardoin was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Sam Armentor went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Kai Lalonde went 1-for-2 for BBHS.
Armentor took the loss, allowing seven hits and five runs, only one of those earned, with a walk and two strikeouts in five innings. Hayden Stelly allowed two hits and a walk while striking out two in an inning of relief work.
Cecilia went 2-3 on the week to improve to 8-10 overall.
The Bulldogs lost to Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy 8-6 on March 3, beat Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy 8-5 on Wednesday, then went 1-2 in the Ascension Episcopal tournament.
The Bulldogs split games on Thursday in the tourney, losing to Opelousas Catholic 16-1 and beating AES 6-4. On Friday, Cecilia lost to West Ouachita 7-0.
St. Martinville went 1-2 in three games over the week, losing to Hanson Memorial 4-0 on the road on March 3, then falling to Delcambre 17-2 on Thursday on the road. The Tigers beat Delcambre 3-2 on Saturday at home.
