Another chilly morning here in Belle River but the sun is shining and the wind seems to have stoopped blowing, thank goodness. The Belle River bridge has once again dropped quite low to the point of being a very careful crossing if you’re in a small car like mine. The DOTD has removed the big lighted caution signs, so just be careful if you come this way. With the wind stopping, I suspect the river will rise a little. Makes me wonder if anybody has figured out how to deal with this situation in the future because I think this same scenario will happen again.
And I have to tell you, yesterday I heard the chirp of one Purple Martin by the bird house on the dock. I usually take that house down every winter and clean it but did not do that this year. Maybe it’s just as well. I’d forgotten that February is the time that the Purple Martin scouts come back so I’m glad their house was ready, not clean, but ready. And as I write I can hear them out on the house again.
With a steady and cold wind blowing the past few days, I haven’t been on the levee. I actually went to the Belle River boat landing and hunkered against one of the big Awapaho dumpsters, south side, just to get out of the wind. Not much boat traffic at the landing but I think I’m hearing that crawfishing is beginning a little. Not much.
I had my yard mowed yesterday and it looks so neat. And green. The grass wasn’t tall but scraggly. If and when it warms up enough I need to get out and see what plants I have left.
I can tell that the corn plant leaves are all dead but the plant always comes back. And I probably said that my Bauhinia or Orchid tree leaves are all brown and crispy. I will have to cut that back. It will come back but never seems to make blooms anymore before it gets hit with a freeze.
Chair yoga tonight and tomorrow morning. Food for Seniors was Feb. 26. I was sent a new, updated income guideline which I don’t know what to do with since I’m not asked anymore to know my recipients finances. And I keep being told not to take any more new people.
The Belle River landing was almost empty when the dog and I went there yesterday. It had warmed a lot but the south wind was colder than I’d expected and I’d forgotten to wear my head band. A friend joined me for a bit, then we both left. I went back in a short while later to leave a bowl of dog food for a poor little dog that has been staying at the landing. First time there has been a stray there in quite a while and the poor thing looked pretty hungry. I hope it belongs to someone close by.
Yoga this morning. The last session was fun. After our exercise the ladies and I stayed and somehow got on the topic of being accosted by people asking for money.
I’ve never had this problem and now wonder why. Maybe I look too poor. Everyone of the ladies had a different technique of handling this from outright ignoring, to giving some money to offering to buy a meal. I felt a bit odd when I recalled several times when someone has offered to help me load packages into my car or picked up something I dropped. Nobody has asked for money. I’m kind of sorry I heard all this because now I migiht be watching everyone around me. But I won’t.
