100 Years Ago March 6, 1926

The season for Anthrax (charbon) is fast approaching and the County Agent would like to have those desiring to immunize their stock get in touch with him immediately. Its impossible for one man to do all the work even under well planned conditions but, its immeasurably so when every one wants the work done at the same time.

Members of the Breaux Bridge high school senior class of 1926 were entertained at a Radio Party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Dauterive Saturday evening.

Grocery stores and filling stations are being robbed. Can not fool a crook. They know where the money is.

At a meeting of the town council this week, it was dceided to reduce the rate of lights from 17.5 to 15 cents, which news will be welcomed by users of electric current.

The sheriff’s office is busy sending out notices to delinquent tax payers, and there are quite a number of them.

50 Years Ago March 4, 1976

Reigning over the 30th annual Rotary Ball as General Andrew Jackson and Sophronie Claiborne were Rotarian Andrew Daspit, King Rotary XXX, and Miss Pamala Theriot, Queen Ann XXX.

The City of St. Martinville has acquired the use of a portion of the Longfellow - Evangeline State Commemorative Area as a city recreation park. Following a meeting last week with state, park officials and local legislators, the council approved a 25-year lease of 25.8 acres of the park facilities.

At a special meeting, the St. Martin School Board accepted bids for the purchase of eight new school buses. Successful bidder was Arceneaux Ford of St. Martinville with a low bid of $111,025. The buses will be with automatic transmission, power steering, air brakes and 60 gallon fuel tanks.

Nineteen 4-H club members exhibited 21 head of beef cattle, sheep and market lambs and breeding and market hogs at the St. Martin Parish Jr. Livestock Show held in Breaux Bridge.

Judging and placing in the various classes with ribbons and trophies awarded to the exhibitors as follows: (Blue is the first award group; Red is the second award group.)

40 Years Ago March 5, 1986

Hoping to curb the considerable loitering and littering problem concentrated mainly on the southside of town, the St. Martinville city council authorized the police chief to deploy two beat-walking police officers regularly to that area.

Officers of the newly formed St. Martinville Jr. Beta Club were Yolanda Colomb, president; Kevin Dugas, vice president; Lori Trahan, secretary; and Troy Miller, reporter.

Joy Blanchard was the winner of the St. Martinville Primary Spelling Bee.

Jeremy Lasseigne of St. Martinville and Shantell Bernard of Catahoula were king and queen of the New Iberia Children’s Carnival.

25 Years Ago March 7, 2001

Tiffany Doré, was crowned 2001 Jr. Crawfish Queen. Runners-up were Jacqueline Davis, 1st alternate, Nonnie Berard, 2nd alternate and Andraé Melancon, 3rd alternate.

Work on the new $842,000 community center for St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge was nearing completion. Workers put the finishing touches on the front courtyard, which feature a statue of St. Bernard.

Breaux Bridge officials held a ceremonial contract signing to mark the awarding of the contract for the widening of Rees Street La. 328 in the Crawfish Capital from two to five lanes. Com
