Another beautiful day ahead. In the 60’s at 8 am. Sunny, not a drop of rain which is needed.
Belle River is still low but the absence of a north wind has allowed the water level to rise so the pontoon bridge is almost level. The caution lights are still up, which seems a good idea. My phone says colder temps coming in a few days and I imagine that means north wind.
Meanwhile, things are quiet over here. Bingo was held on the l7 at the request of players and over 20 showed up. Yoga that evening was attended by the usual crew. Next yoga is this morning and then next week.
Food for Seniors is Feb. 26 and that seems to be the same. No new recipients accepted. The Baton Rouge Food Bank comes to a park in Pierre Part now and then and I asked them if they would come over here but was told no. It doesn’t stop them from sending me solicitations in the mail. The Second Harvest boxes we get are nice but never anything fresh like the Food Bank. I often wonder where the boxes of cheese and milk come from and the juice. Are these items always left over from stores? I guess I should ask just to satisfy my curiosity.
According to my phone app, cold weather is coming again Sunday night. I am not looking forward to any more cold. I don’t think a freeze is mentioned but I was planning on buying some plants for my flower gardens. Maybe I’ll wait. I miss having some color in the yard.
My neighbor to the north is having her lawn mowed as I write and now I can hear the weed eater.
You might know that Dee Hymel, Recreation board secretary and Stephensville resident is responsible for a book box at the Stephensville park. It is solely for Accelerated Reader (AR) books. There is another box at the school and that one I have recently filled. Any books (nice one ones of course) are welcome in that one.
As a matter of fact, I’m not sure where I got it, but I acquired a copy of Hatchet by Gary Paulsen and reread it for the second or third time. It’s not a big book. I recommend it for anyone, any age. It is an AR book but a bit tattered for the park box.
That one got me started on rereading The Children’s Blizzard which is not an AR book but is wonderful. I think the author has some expertise with weather so he really went into detail on the blizzard of l888 in Dakota where hundreds of children froze. . They had walked to their sod roofed schools on a relatively warm day with no jackets, mittens, boots, etc. and the storm caught them trying to get home. I went to a one room school from 2nd to 6th grades and walked to school, but never had to endure what these poor children encountered. The book is not for the faint of heart, but it certainly is interesting. There was no weather service then, only indications put out by the military. Can you imagine? How many times do I check the weather on my phone or TV. A friend of mine who came to the US from another country and was learning to speak English, said the weather channel was her favorite and most helpful.
Anyway, read what you want and have a great weekend.
