The Breaux Bridge High School baseball team went 2-1 in Beau Chene’s tournament this past week to improve to 6-1 on the season.
The Tigers lost to Erath 14-0 on Thursday but beat Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy 3-2 on the same day. BBHS beat Sacred Heart of Ville Platte 15-9 on Saturday.
Erath scored in six of seven innings, leading 2-0 after one inning, 4-0 after two and 6-0 after three. After a scoreless fourth, the Bobcats added two in the fifth, one in the sixth and five in the seventh, finishing with 15 hits.
Landon Derouen went 5-for-5 with three doubles and five RBIs for Erath. Jack Landry had a triple and Cade Francis, Talan Landry and Landon Lemaire each had a double and a single.
Breaux Bridge had six hits on the day but committed three errors.
Benjamin Ellender singled and doubled and Bryce Melancon also doubled for the Tigers and Kyson Rebert, Caynon Ardoin and Caymen Theriot singled.
Ardoin started and took the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts in three innings. Chris Broussard allowed two runs on three hits with a walk in two innings and Evan Theriot allowed five runs on four hits with two walks in two innings.
In the win over LRCA, Breaux Bridge broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the sixth inning. The Tigers led 2-1 after one inning before LRCA tied it in the fifth.
Benjamin Ellender had a double and an RBI to lead the Tigers at the plate. Evan Theriot added a hit and Kyson Rebert and Kai Lalonde scored runs. Christian Camacho drove in a run.
Ellender also pitched 6 1/3 innings to earn the win, giving up one hit and one earned run with five walks and nine strikeouts. Camacho got the final two outs on strikeouts.
On Friday against Sacred Heart, the Tigers rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the fourth inning with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth and seven in the bottom of the fifth to pull out a win.
Caynon Ardoin doubled and scored twice, Benjamin Ellender had two hits and drove in four runs, Bryce Melancon had two hits and drove in three runs, Kyson Rebert had two hits, Charlie Frederick had a hit and two RBIs, Kai Lalonde had a double and drove in three and Sam Armentor added a hit and an RBI. Evan Theriot also had an RBI.
Christian Camacho pitched three innings for the win, allowing 10 hits and four runs with three walks. Hayden Stelly pitched four innings, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out four.
Cecilia went 3-3 over the past 10 days to improve to 5-3 on the season.
The Bulldogs fell to St. Edmund 4-3 on Feb. 13 and beat South Lafourche 9-7 on Feb. 14 in the Cecilia baseball tournament, then beat Westminster Christian on Feb. 16 in a non-district game.
CHS went 1-2 in Westlake’s tournament the next week, losing to Kaplan 6-2 on Friday and beating DeQuincy 10-6 but losing to Iowa 6-3 on Saturday.
St. Martinville earned its first win of the season to improve to 1-5. The Tigers beat Lacassine 2-1 on Saturday in Beau Chene’s tournament.
SMSH lost to Eunice 12-2 in Cecilia’s tourney on Feb. 13. The Tigers also lost to Beau Chene 1-1 in the BCHS tournament on Friday.
