The St. Martin Council on Aging‘s annual “S.O.S. - Support our Seniors” Walkathon will be held on Saturday, April 11 at Parc Hardy, located at 1290 Rees Street, Breaux Bridge, from 9:30 am until noon. Registration will begin at 8:00 am. An opening ceremony will begin shortly before start time. All ages are welcome.

COA Board members and volunteers will prepare poboy meals for a donation of $10. Meals will consist of a poboy, bag of chips, drink, and a dessert. Kettle corn and Philly ice will also be available.

Individuals can choose between a 5K Run and the Walkathon. Both are open to ages 13 years old and up. Walking and/or running on behalf of another person is allowed. All participants will receive a free t-shirt with registration, if registered by March 27. There will be musical entertainment and the LA Christian School cheerleaders will be on hand to motivate participants. A physical therapist will also lead the crowd in stretching exercises. In addition, area social service agencies will provide various health screenings and distribute valuable information. There will also be fun activities for children including a petting zoo, train rides, face painting, cake walk, and fun jumps. Vitalant will conduct a blood drive and give free t-shirts to those who donate blood. For the second year in a row, there will be a Car & Bike Show as well.

To make this event a success, you can help by becoming an event sponsor; T-shirt sponsor, sponsor a team of walkers or runners, consisting of 4 people; Walk or run alone; provide a booth andventer your vehicle in our Car & Bike Show.

Eazley Babineaux, AKA “DJ Boogie Boi”, will entertain the crowd throughout the event. There is no additional cost for the entertainment or children’s activities; however, the COA will accept donations.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the Home-Delivered Meals Program and other agency expenses.
