All three St. Martin Parish high school boys’ basketball teams earned bids to the Non-Select Division II playoffs as pairings were announced Monday.
St. Martinville Senior High used a 39-30 win over Cecilia on Friday in the Tigers’ Winterfest game to propel themselves to the top seed among the three local teams.
SMSH (14-16) moved up two spots from 22nd to 20th in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s final seedings report. SMSH, which also beat Catholic High of New Iberia 52-42 on Thursday after falling to JS Clark Leadership Academy 59-54 on Wednesday, is set to travel to No. 13 Assumption (22-9) to open the postseason.
Cecilia (13-13) slipped from 21st to 22nd in the final power rankings and will travel to No. 11 Sterlington (23-7) to open the playoffs. The Bulldogs beat Livonia 59-40 in their final District 5-4A game of the season on Wednesday.
Breaux Bridge (1216) earned a spot as the No. 27 seed and travels to No. 6 DeRidder (227) in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers beat Opelousas 75-71 on Wednesday but lost to Livonia 52-49 on Friday to close out District 5-4A play.
Twenty-eight teams earned playoff bids in the Division II Non-Select bracket. Firstround playoff games must be played by Friday.
The regional (second) round games are to be played by March 3 with the quarterfinals to be played by March 6.
The boys’ Marsh Madness state tournament is scheduled March 9-14 at the Burton Coliseum Complex located on the campus of McNeese State University in Lake Charles.
The top five teams in the Division II Non-Select playoffs are Wossman (21-7), Northwest (22-7), Brusly (22-5), Bossier (19-8) and Franklin Parish (20-7).
Four of the five are Class 4A teams with only Northwest classified as a 3A school.
The top four teams receive first-round playoff byes.
