Grosse Tete – A 60-year-old Breaux Bridge man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-10 in Iberville Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.
Shortly before 2 a.m. on Feb. 10, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 10 west near milepost 128 in Iberville Parish. The crash claimed the life of 60-year-old Nathan Smiling of Breaux Bridge.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Smiling was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado west on Interstate 10 near milepost 128 when he was involved in a single-vehicle crash. After the initial crash, the Silverado became disabled in the roadway, blocking both westbound lanes. A short time later, a 2013 International box truck traveling west struck the disabled Silverado.
Crash
Smiling was unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Impairment is suspected. However, routine toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis. The driver of the box truck was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries. No charges are pending at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
Troopers urge drivers to always make safe decisions behind the wheel: never drive impaired, always wear a seat belt, and avoid distractions. Taking a few extra seconds to buckle up or slow down can be the difference between life and death.
