Baja St. Martin

5:30 Another wonderful day ahead. Foggy in the morning but by 10 am, the sun is shining and the warmth pours in. It is pure heaven. If we get another cold spell it will break my heart.

My sister sent me pictures of two deer grazing on corn she throws out. They were right by her front window. In the snow.

I’ve been able to get on the levee the past few days. Sometimes my visit coincides with that of my two friends and their dogs but often it’s just me and mine which is ok. I do crypto quizzes and crosswords when I’m not walking.

My sister also sent me a photo that someone sent her of our father back in 1959 when he was teaching at a school I attended. My sister is much younger and didn’t attend that school. He looked the same as I remembered. I think he retired not long after and then was called back by a friend who needed teachers for a new school. That one I did not attend, but there were lots of others. Six by the time I graduated, then three after.

The Belle River bridge is possibly a little better. The north wind has moderated so the pontoon part of the bridge has at least not sunk any further and maybe even risen a tiny bit. I have developed the habit of waiting until there is no traffic in either direction then I drive onto the ramps at an angle. Somehow I think that keeps my front bumper elevated a little. Maybe.

I managed to get out yesterday afternoon and cleaned out one flower bed. I discovered several giant red ant mounds which I treated and hope they will be vacated today. My Bauhinia or Orchid Tree is dead or at least all that is above ground. Roses are ok. Lilies are poking up. Heather is good. All my Pentas are kaput and I think my Confederate Rose tree may be dead. Not sure.

I had a shock the other morning when I checked my weather app on my phone and it said 22 degrees for Pierre Part. I didn’t have the sense to give it much thought other than something was wrong with my phone. Then I browsed a little and discovered that the weather had switched to Celsius not Farenheit.

Yoga classes are going well but attendance is not what I’d like. The ladies who come are the ones who also are involved in other things. They play Bingo in Morgan City, shuffle board at a local bar, take cruises, babysit. I’m pleased that so many women are keeping themselves busy—I I think that’s good, but sort of wish they gave more attention to Yoga. At least they are doing something rather than sit home.

I hope my friend Mr. Huet is recovering well and possibly even back home now. We haven’t talked in a few days.

And I want to thank Ms. Brew at the St. Martinville library who just sent over two big boxes of books for the Little Free Libraries here. And the Spice of the Month this time is Curry. Our LFL box at the Belle River Community Center is full right now so I’ll save some of the new books. There are two Little Free Library boxes at Stephensville. One was a donation and is mainly for Accelerated Reader books but there is another standing in the school parking lot area. I’ll pass that one today and see if it needs books. Maybe we need another box.

While this weather continues I will spend as much time as possible cleaning flower beds. It’s depressing to see the dead stuff but I’m a little excited about planting something new.
