Candidate qualifying for the May 16, 2026 Party Primary/Municipal Primary Election, including key races in St. Martinville for Mayor and five council seats, will be able to officially enter the contest from Wednesday, Feb. 11, through Friday, Feb. 13 by filing the required paperwork and fees with the appropriate election officials.
Qualifying will take place over a three-day window opening the field for federal, state, and local offices.
State-level candidates, including those seeking offices that use the closed party primary system such as U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative, must qualify with the Secretary of State. Local candidates, including those running for Mayor and City Council positions in St. Martinville, qualify with the clerk of court in St. Martin Parish.
