The three St. Martin Parish boys’ basketball teams all remain in the mix for postseason bids as the Louisiana High School Athletic Association released its power rankings on Monday that determine which teams will earn playoff bids and where they will be seeded.
Cecilia (11-11) moved up a spot from 22nd to 21st with a 30.11 power ranking, St. Martinville (11-14) remained 23rd with a 29.22 power ranking and Breaux Bridge (12-9) dropped slightly from 24th to 25th with a 28.34 power ranking in the Division II Non-Select rankings.
Twenty-eight teams will earn playoff bids in the Division II Non-Select bracket. The regular season is scheduled to end Feb. 21 with playoff pairings announced on Feb. 23. First-round playoff games must be played by Feb. 27.
If the playoffs began today, all three parish teams would open the playoffs on the road.
Cecilia would travel to face the No. 12 seed, currently Abbeville High (17-1-).
St. Martinville would travel to the No. 10 seed, currently Belle Chasse (19-10).
Breaux Bridge would travel to the No. 8 seed, currently DeRidder (206).
The regional (second) round games are to be played by March 3 with the quarterfinals to be played by March 6.
The boys’ Marsh Madness state tournament is scheduled March 9-14 at the Burton Coliseum Complex located on the campus of McNeese State University in Lake Charles.
The top five teams in the latest power rankings for Division II Non-Select schools are Bossier (17-7), Brusly (19-4), Wossman (19-6), Northwest (18-7) and Franklin Parish (18-7). Four of the five are Class 4A teams with only Northwest classified as a 3A school.
Girls
Cecilia High School remained 26th in the most recent unofficial LHSAA girls’ basketball power rankings and would earn a playoff bid if the season ended today.
The Lady Bulldogs (12-14) would travel to face the No. 7 seed in the opening round, currently Albany (20-8).
CHS is currently the lone St. Martin Parish girls’ basketball team that would qualify for the playoffs if the season ended today.
St. Martinville (5-14) is 35th in the power rankings and Breaux Bridge (4-23) is 39th.
The top 28 teams in the power rankings at season’s end earn playoff bids.
The regular season will end Feb. 14 for the girls’ teams with playoff pairings announced on Feb. 16.
Bi-district (first round) games must be played by Feb. 19.
Regional round games must be played by Feb. 23, with quarterfinal games played by Feb. 26.
The girls’ Marsh Madness state tournament is scheduled March 2-7 at the University Center at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.
Sterlington (21-4), LaGrange (24-4), North Vermilion (23-3), Wossman (14-8) and Iowa (21-5) are the top five teams in the latest girls’ Division II Non-Select power rankings. Sterlington is a Class 3A team while the other four are in Class 4A.
