Council member resigns at Parks Village meeting

Parks — The Parks Village Council began the new year with significant changes during its January meeting, highlighted by the resignation of a council member and the appointment of an interim replacement.

Council member Kanisha Potier officially resigned from her position, and Eva Potier was approved by the council to fill the vacant seat.

“Kanisha moved out of the area and can no longer represent that district,” explained Parks Mayor Kevin Kately. “That was the only reason for her resignation. We were fortunate that Miss Eva, who has previously served on the council, was available and accepted my invitation to return in an interim capacity until we can hold an election.”

Kately noted that Eva Potier will serve on the council until the November election. “She brings valuable experience and a deep understanding of the village and its needs,” he added.

In other updates, Kately announced progress on the construction of the new village well, previously approved by the council. Construction is expected to begin by late February or early March, pending final state approvals.

Resign

“We’re just waiting on the last round of state approvals so we can start digging soon,” Kately said. “It’s been a long time coming.”

The project will cost the village about $2 million.

“It’s more than we hoped to spend, and we’re still applying for grants to help offset costs,” Kately explained. “However, the need for a new well was urgent, and since we had the funds available, we decided to move forward.”

Once the well is completed, the village plans to resume its water meter replacement program, which began last year.

“After the new well is operational, we’ll move ahead with the next round of water meter replacements,” Kately said.
