Breaux Bridge — St. Martinville Senior High jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first half against Breaux Bridge and held on for a 54-46 win over their St. Martin Parish boys’ basketball rivals this past Thursday.
SMSH led 14-5 after one quarter and 2614 at halftime, then pushed its lead to 4330 by the end of the third quarter. BBHS staged a fourth-quarter rally, outscoring St. Martinville 16-11 to pull to within 8 by game’s end.
Kervin Fontenette led St. Martinville with 16 points, 10 in the second half. Marc Floyd added 12 points and Ja’Korey Blanchard had 11 with Landon Potier hitting two of the Tigers’ four 3-pointers and finishing with 6 points.
Rylen Noel had 13 points for Breaux Bridge and was the only player scoring in double figures for his team, hitting two of the Tigers’ five 3-pointers on the night. Isaiah LeBlanc added 8 points, all in the second half, while Cottrell Gordon finished with 7 points and Trevonta Adams had 6.
Breaux Bridge was playing its third game in four days. The Tigers lost at home to Eunice on Monday, Jan. 12, 66-63, then fell 72-53 at Northside on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
SMSH followed that win up with a 57-51 road win at Eunice on Friday.
The Tigers took control in the second quarter after each team scored 9 in the first period. SMSH led 29-25 at halftime but Eunice rallied to lead 41-37 after three quarters. The Tigers outscored the Bobcats 20-11 in the fourth quarter to get the win.
Kristian Batiste led St. Martinville with 19 points and Landon Potier added 10, hitting two of his team’s four 3-point baskets on the night. Kervin Fontenette had 9 and Jorey Blanchard had 8 for SMSH.
Eunice had four players in double figures led by Xavier Malveaux’s 13 points. Devonte Johnson and Romello Godine added 11 each and Danie Godfrey had 10 but only two other players scored, combining for 6 points.
Neither team shot well from the free throw line with St. Martinville going 1-for-8 and and Eunice going 6-for -17.
St. Martinville lost a home game to New Iberia Senior High on Monday, falling 45-33.
The Tigers struggled to score, getting 7 points in the first, third and fourth quarters with only a 12-point second quarter reaching double figures.
NISH scored 10, 11, 7 and 17, respectively, in each quarter.
Marc Floyd was the only St. Martinville player scoring in double figures, netting 12 points. Andre Jones added 7 and Kervin Fontenette, Solari Lastrappe and Jorey Blanchard had 6 each.
Shane Westley led the Yello Jackets with 16 points. Myles Jones added 6 points and Tre Lively had 5 with four players scoring 2 points each.
Cecilia beat Helix Mentorship Academy 57-34 in a non-district game Friday.
