Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site announces the following events for January 2026 St. Martinville French Table every Wednesday 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Conversation, practice and activities for speakers of Cajun, Creole and international French, from beginners to native speakers Louisiana French: Preserve & Evolve - an exhibition by CODOFIL now through January 12. Louisiana’s French and Creole/Kouri-Vini languages have shaped our state immeasurably yet are often misunderstood. Get the facts about these languages, their place in the greater French-speaking world, and efforts made by inspiring individuals to reclaim them.

Hidden in Plain Sight: Exploring Louisiana’s disappearing prairie An exhibition by ourbio. org from January 15 through January 27. The ponds, fields and towns of Southwest Louisiana occupy what was once a 2.5 million acre tallgrass coastal prairie teeming with life. The settlers who tamed it drove wagons across the thick growth with difficulty. Hidden in Plain Sight reveals the fascinating components of an eco-region that shaped Cajun and Creole culture and relates efforts to conserve and restore this important part of our past and future.

Louisiana Grass Roots: A documentary film - Tuesday January 27 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Discover the coastal tallgrass prairie of Louisiana, the people who settled it, the Cajun and Creole cultures that sprung from it, and the people working to save it. Once 2.5 million acres, only scattered patches remain as the critically endangered home for thousands of grass, wildflower, insect, bird and mammal species. The prairie is not a backdrop but an intricate tapestry of human connection and ecological significance. See the restoration and conservation efforts now underway to grow this vital resource.
