St. Martin Parish teams each picked up boys’ basketball wins in the first week of January, with Breaux Bridge and St. Martinville winning games in the New Year’s Classic tournament in Ville Platte and Cecilia netting a win over Rayne a few days later.
Breaux Bridge beat Westminster Christian 76-73, Cecilia fell to Mamou 68-48 and St. Martinville beat Eunice 46-36 in the New Year’s Classic held Saturday, Jan. 3.
On Tuesday, Jan. 6, Cecilia beat Rayne 57-49 and Breaux Bridge lost to Northwest 56-21.
On Wednesday, Cecilia lost to Comeaux 42-31.
Breaux Bridge lost to Church Point 61-56 and Cecilia fell to Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy 51-41 on Thursday, Jan. 8.
The teams will be in action again this week with Breaux Bridge traveling to Northside today for a non-district game. Breaux Bridge then hosts St. Martinville in another non-district game on Thursday, and Cecilia visits Helix Mentorship Academy and St. Martinville travels to Eunice for nondistrict games on Friday.
St. Martinville hosts another nondistrict game on Monday against New Iberia before the three parish teams get into league play on Tuesday.
Breaux Bridge and Cecilia open District 5-4A play against each other at CHS on Tuesday, while St. Martinville travels to Abbeville to open District 5-3A action.

Girls
Two of the three St. Martin Parish’s girls’ basketball teams all got wins in games following the Darrel Mitchell Sr. Holiday Classic at St. Martinville Senior High the final week of December.
Breaux Bridge beat DeRidder 5239 in the Teurlings Catholic tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Cecilia fell to Westgate 33-30 on Monday, Jan. 5, before beating Rayne 39-31 on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Breaux Bridge fell to Northwest 60-8 on Jan. 6.
Cecilia then beat Comeaux 53-31 on Jan. 7.
All three parish girls’ teams lost on Jan. 8. Breaux Bridge lost to Church Point 58-21, Cecilia lost to Iowa 7117 and St. Martinville lost to Franklin 59-51.
The teams are in action again this week with Breaux Bridge traveling to Northside today.
St. Martinville hosts New Iberia in a non-district game on Thursday.
BBHS opens District 5-4A play Friday at home against Opelousas, then travels to Cecilia on Tuesday for a district game. St. Martinville opens District 5-3A action Tuesday at Abbeville.
BBHS plays at Teurlings Catholic in a non-district game on Jan. 21.
