This is another short week for the newspaper so I haven’t much to share. I did spend the Christmas holiday, or at least some of it, in New Orleans with family and that was wonderful. A sister and boyfriend from the Detroit area flew down, a granddaughter and husband from Orlando flew up and over, a daughter and special friend from Florida picked me up and we all stayed in a Holiday Inn, the Chateaux Lemoyne on Dauphine street. Since we were of various ages and interests, we ended up going to various places. The French market and Jackson Square with a peek in St. Louis Cathedral. We intended to get beignets at Café du Monde but when we got there the line extended several blocks. So we ended up at another Café place with the same offering.
Some of our group went to the WWII Museum and others to the Aquarium. All of us went on a City Park bus tour which was long and pretty nice. Got to stop at a cemetery, and City Park. Others went to Oceania, I think it was called. Some to the place that turns. Some went to the Court of Two Sisters which was really incredible. So much food and the ambience was wonderful.
We were there only for two full days and part of two more so the time went fast. Those flying out had to get to the airport at different times. My sister and her friend said their flight back to Detroit was good until they had to change planes in Nashville and from then on it was bumpy. I believe they flew into a snow storm in Detroit.
We couldn’t have asked for nicer weather. The whole time we were in NOLA the temperatures were in the 70s. People were in shorts and t-shirts. I came home on Dec. 28 and during the night I woke up when the wind started howling from the north. It was cold but the sun was shining and the forecast is for cold nights but not super freezing.
My house is not well insulated and pretty drafty, but with my main heat source plus a few space heaters occasionally, it won’t be bad. I really don’t like cold weather anymore and wonder how I ever lived for many years in the north.
I was given two large, beautiful jigsaw puzzles for Christmas plus a foam apparatus on which to work the puzzles with little sliding drawers for holding pieces. So far I have only got one puzzle out and will begin to work on it later today.
I have in the past made two, maybe three 3-D puzzles which are lots of fun. One was of the Capitol and I can’t remember the other. I do remember that I didn’t have this foam board thing for them and quickly discovered that my cat loved to jump up on the puzzle as I worked on it. 3-D pieces are foam backed and the static electricity between them and the cat’s fur meant I lost a bunch of pieces. These new puzzles are not foam backed so I won’t have that problem.
Mr. Huet, I hope you had a nice Christmas with family. Looking forward to talking with you again. I have not had any more hummingbirds at my feeder which is now empty and I guess I should take it down.
I am dealing with a new word format here and not sure of the number of words I’m putting down. So, Happy New Year everyone. Keep safe, warm, happy and everything else good. I don’t look forward to aging another year but the trip to the big city sort of rejuvenated me. Good to get out of my comfort zone once in a while.
