Breaux Bridge – The Office of State Fire Mar shall is investigating a fatal residential fire in Breaux Bridge that claimed the life of an infant on Sunday.
The Breaux Bridge Fire Department responded to calls of a house fire at 2:18 a.m.

A baby died as a re- sult of the fire. The child’s mother sustained burn injuries and two of the baby’s siblings were overcome by smoke inhalation but survived the fire.
SFM investigators have not determined whether the house had working smoke alarms. The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
The office of the fire marshal is using the tragedy to again urge state residents to make sure they have functioning smoke alarms in their homes.

“Fire deaths are always tragic, and many can be prevented,” state Department of Public Safety Principal Assistant Chief Bryan J. Adams said. “Working smoke alarms give families the critical early warning needed to escape. Our Operation Save-A-Life program provides free smoke alarms and installation to help ensure every household has this essential protection.”
For more information on the program or to request a free smoke alarm installation, visit lasfm.org or contact your local fire department.
