The St. John refinery had to stop grinding for three days on account of the cane being frozen. This big mill will be running for two or three weeks more.

No doubt we have all read in the report of the Grand Jury the complaint about the town bridge. Those who have not read the detail no doubt know in what condition the bridge is it they passed on it or stand around the post-office when some heavy trucks pass over it. The Bridge is no doubt in a terrible condition and we do not see why the Police Jury does not do something to fix the bridge as it is almost dangerous to pass over it in a car.

Production of sugar in Louisiana for the 1925 season was estimated at 197.528 short tons, in a preliminary report issued by Lionel L. Janes, agricultural statistician of the United States bureau of agricultural economies. This is 15,000 tons below the ten-year average, in spite of one of one of the largest cane crops in recent years. An unusually low yield of sugars per ton of cane is responsible for production falling below earlier estimates. Average sugar yield per ton of cane for all sugars was estimated at 108.3 pounds. Last year the sugar yield was 144.1 pounds per ton of sugar cane, while the ten year average is 140.3 pounds per tons of cane. The low recovery of sugar per ton of cane, declares the report, is due, among other things, to the sugar cane moth borer, which have been unusually severe, and to the damaging effect of early freezes.
