FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS – The St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church square in St. Martinville is lit up at night following the St. Lucy Festival of Lights lighting ceremony held this past Saturday. The event honors St. Lucy near her feast day of Dec. 13. Lucia of Syracuse lived in the late third and early fourth centuries and brought food to persecuted Christians, lighting her way with candles on her head, before being martyred around 304 AD. St. Lucy is the Catholic patron saint of light and of the blind and those with vision issues. (Chris Landry)
