St. Martinville – The Consolidated Water District No. 4 board authorized board president Donnie Laviolette to sign a lease agreement with Billeaud Sugar Factory for property to use for construction of a new water well at a special meeting held this past Wednesday morning, and to expropriate property for servitude rights to connect the well with the water lines connecting it to the district’s water system.
“The tract of property is owned by many different (family) members,” St. Martin Parish Director of Administration Raymond Bernard Jr. said at the meeting. “Some are deceased, some are here, some are not here. So in legal terms, as agreed upon by our legal team and the legal team with the Billeaud Sugar Factory, the best opportunity is to expropriate the land that’s in question. I hope that I’m saying that correctly.

“It is in the resolution. It’s basically a resolution authorizing the board president, Donnie Laviolette, to retain legal counsel and to pursue litigation regarding an expropriation lawsuit to obtain servitude rights to the water well site of the consolidated district.”
The resolution passed by a 4-0 vote with board member Kirk Lasseigne absent from the special meeting.
The item was the only item on the agenda as the regular monthly meeting has been postponed until January because the December meeting was to be held two days before Christmas.
The next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 27 at 6 p.m.
