New Iberia Woman dies from injuries in St. Martin Parish crash

St. Martinville – A 61-year-old New Iberia woman died from injuries in a single-vehicle crash on La. 96 near La. 345 in St. Martin Parish on Thursday.

Louisiana St. Police Troop I troopers responded to a call about the crash shortly after 10 a.m. on Dec. 4.

The crash ultimately claimed the life of 61-year-old Kongkham Phommachanh of New Iberia.   .The preliminary investigation revealed that Phommachanh was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra west on La. 96. For reasons still under investigation, the Tundra failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the roadway, and then overturned. .P hommachanh, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

Crash

A standard toxicology sample was collected from Phommachanh and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists of the importance of making responsible decisions while operating a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted.
