St. Martinville – Ten boys’ basketball teams will join St. Martinville Senior High for the annual Darrel Mitchell Sr. Holiday Classic basketball tournament at SMSH from Dec. 26-29.
St. Martin Parish squads Breaux Bridge and Cecilia are among the teams set to play in the tournament, along with Iberia Parish teams New Iberia Senior High and Loreauville and Lafayette Parish squads Lafayette High, Northside and Comeaux.
Rayne, Peabody and Franklin round out the boys’ bracket, which starts with games at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 26.
SMSH takes on Lafayette at 2 p.m. in the first boys’ game, with Loreauville and Rayne playing at 3:30 p.m. in Game 2.
Breaux Bridge lays Comeaux at 5 p.m. in Game 3 and Cecilia plays Northside in Game 4 at 6:30 p.m.
The second day starts at 1 p.m. Saturday with New Iberia taking on the Breaux Bridge-Comeaux winner in game 5. Franklin plays the Loreauville-Rayne winner at 6 p.m. on Saturday in Game 6 and Peabody plays the Cecilia-Northside winner at 4 p.m. Saturday in Game 7.
Consolation bracket games start at 5:30 p.m. Saturday with the losers of games 2 and 4 playing, followed by the Game 1 and 3 losers at 7 p.m.
Sunday’s action starts with a loser’s bracket game at 2 p.m. between the Game 5 and Game 7 losers. The consolation semifinals are at 3:30 p.m. Sunday and 2 p.m. Monday.
The semifinals are at 5 p.m. Sunday with Game 5 and Game 6 winners facing off, followed by Game 1 and Game 7 winners at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
The consolation finals are at 3:30 p.m. on Monday and the championship game is at 7 p.m. Monday.
Girls’ Bracket
Six girls’ teams also are in the tournament, including St. Martinville, Cecilia and Breaux Bridge.
Joining the three parish squads are Beau Chene, Westgate and New Iberia Senior High.
The girls’ tournament starts Friday at 4 p.m. with Beau Chene playing Westgate in the auxiliary gym followed by St. Martinville against New Iberia at 6 p.m. in the auxiliary gym.
On Saturday, Cecilia plays the Beau Chene-Westgate winner at 4 p.m. in the auxiliary gym, and Breaux Bridge plays the St. Martinville- NISH winner at 6 p.m. in the auxiliary gym.
Sunday action gets under way with the loser’s bracket games starting at 4 p.m. with the SMSH-NISH loser playing the Cecilia-Beau Chene/Westgate loser at 5 p.m. in the auxiliary gym. The Beau Chene-Westgate loser faces the Breaux Bridge-SMSH/ NISH loser at 6 p.m. in the auxiliary gym.
On Monday, the loser’s bracket final is at noon in the main gym, followed by the championship game at 5 p.m. in the main gym.
