Obviously, the cold front has arrived and thankfully it will not last long. I had to chuckle a bit when for the past few days friends have been telling me the temperatures would go into the 20s, or low 30’s, everything would freeze, get your pipes covered, et al. Good advice because the real cold will eventually get here and I don’t have my outdoor faucets covered yet.
Still, last Saturday and Sunday were cold! The wind made it seem worse. I do not like cold and occasionally wonder how I ever survived living in the north happily for so long. Of course, I wasn’t as old as now.
I know this isn’t in St. Martin Parish but I was told the Veterans Park Water trails are possibly just one of two such places in the entire US. So if you like to paddle—canoe or kayak, come over to Pierre Part, take the old road, Lee Drive and you’ll not be able to miss the launch site for the vessels. There are seven trails, each named after a bird, all marked by GPS. I have not yet taken any of the water trails myself yet but am seriously thinking about it. I have paddled Bayou Lafourche from Donaldsonville to Lockport and these local water trails are not as long and I would think they might be more scenic. Well worth a trip over here.
And if you come on a Tuesday or Wednesday, plan to attend one of the Yoga classes at the Belle River Community Center at 5:45 p.m. every Tuesday and 10 a.m. every Wednesday. There’s no charge, no test, just come.
I ate blue crabs for supper last night. They were full and tasty and came from the traps in front of my house. A friend has my permission to put the traps there and I’m a bit surprised there aren’t more, but then I realize that the few he catches are great for our dinner but might not be enough for someone else who wants to make some money.
Belle River water is very low right now. The pontoon bridge has leveled out but early this morning you had to be careful crossing with a sizable drop on one side, equal climb on the other.
Food for Seniors will be Nov. 26, usual places, usual times. It will be double boxes and then not again until January. I’ll be calling everyone to remind them. But if you read this, please, please make a note to either come yourself or have someone get your boxes for you. There will be a lot.
I don’t think it’s a secret but one of the St. Martin Parish recreation board members, Bobby Czeck is in California right now competing in a Pickleball tournament. I accidentally caught one game on my TV and was amazed at how good these people are. I didn’t see Bobby and may not. I’m not even sure how I saw the one game and it has not happened again.
Also, deepest sympathy to District 1 councilman Hoyt Louviere, who recently lost a brother. Too many people dying lately.
My daughter in Tennessee and a sister in Michigan are both reporting very cold temps and in some cases snow. I’m so glad our cold spell here is short lived. This time.
Mr. Huet, my Hummingbird feeder is filled but no hummers lately. Maybe the cold has chased them off. Certainly, the wind has. Mr. Hebert has told me where hummers come from but I wonder where they go here when its cold? Mr. Mc-Vay, greetings. Write again.
