St. Martinville falls to Jennings in playoff game

Jennings – St. Martinville Senior High quarterback Khyrie Francisco threw for 343 yards and three touchdowns but the Tigers couldn’t stop Jennings High School’s run game in a 56-7 loss in the first round of the Division II Non-Select football playof fs on Friday. Francisco completed 18 of 24 passes, including three TDs to Jamion James, who finished with 199 yards on eight receptions.

Senior receiver Kervin Fontenette added five catches for 96 yards and Ja’Korey Blanchard had five catches for 48 yards for the Tigers.

SMSH could only gain 38 yards on the ground, however, led by Julien Stewart’s four runs for 27 yards.

And the Bulldogs rolled up 457 yards on the ground, led by quarterback Chris Ned’s 145 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries.

Gerald Watson added 116 yards and a touchdown on 11 runs, Liam LeBlanc had 93 yards and two touch downs on nine rushes and Marquel Gordon had 88 yards and a pair of TDs on 15 carries.

The Bulldogs led 7-0 after one quarter and 20-6 at halftime and outscored SMSH 7-6 in the third quarter before pulling away in the fourth with a 29-6 advantage.
