Mary Guirard was the guest speaker for the Beta Rho meeting held on November 10. Guirard presented a program on Exercise for Health and Pleasure with emphasis on Tai Chi. Program chair for the evening was Elaine Case.
Guirard explained to members Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese practice involving slow, gentle movements, physical postures, a meditative state and controlled breathing.
The practice aims to promote the flow of vital energy within the body. It can improve overall fitness, improved mood, cognitive function and sleep quality.
Members learned Tai Chi benefits the body by improving balance and flexibility, strengthening muscles and enhancing mental wellbeing through gentle movements and mindful breathing. It can reduce stress, anxiety and risks of falls.
Guirard further explained it benefits chronic conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia and diabetes and can improve bone density and reduce the risk of fractures. Tai Chi is recommended for older adults.
During the presentation members were involved in Tai Chi movement while sitting. Perfect for older individuals.
Members agreed Tai Chi and the low impact movements introduced are perfect for all senior citizens.
President Lynnie Bienvenu conducted the business meeting following the presentation. Committee chair reported on coming activities Program chair Bobbie Theriot announced members and guests will present a program on How Well Do You Know Your Country with an emphasis on Thanksgiving customs at the social to be held on November 25. Theriot announced former members of Beta Rho with member-at-large status will be invited to attend.
Adopted Family chair Shirley Fuselier announced the chapter continues to support a local family monthly.
Christmas social chair Elaine Case announced the annual event will be held on December 16.
The floating basket gift was presented to President Lynnie Bienvenue by Arleen Oubre.
