Breaux Bridge - M. Michael Haik, III, District Attorney for the 16th Judicial District, announced that on October 29, Judge Roger P. Hamilton, Jr. sentenced Alcolby Lasalle, 31, following his guilty plea to charges arising from a violent incident in Breaux Bridge.
In the early morning hours of October 23, 2023, Lasalle attempted to strangle his girlfriend in a parking lot after she indicated she was ready to leave. During the altercation, he produced a firearm and threatened the victim. The victim fled on foot as Lasalle pursued her in his vehicle, attempting to run her over. When the victim sought refuge behind a nearby home, Lasalle continued his pursuit, striking the house with his car and opening fire. Several rounds impacted the residence, causing visible damage. Two occupants were asleep inside the home at the time of the shooting.
The indicent was captured on security video and witnessed by an offduty security guard who stopped to assist. The victim sustained minor injuries. An investigation was conducted by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, led by Detective Kirsten McBay.
On July 28, 2025, Lasalle pled guilty to attempted manslaughter, in violation of La. R.S. 14:31 and 14:27, and aggravated assault with a firearm, in violation of La. R.S. 14:37.4. The crime carries a sentencing range of up to 20 years at hard labor for attempted manslaughter and up to 10 years for aggravated assault with a firearm.
After reviewing the evidence and facts of the case, Judge Hamilton imposed a sentence of 20 years at hard labor for attempted manslaughter and 10 years at hard labor for aggravated assault with a firearm. The court ordered that the sentences run consecutively. Both offenses were designated as crimes of violence under Louisiana law.
